Dear National Member,
Please find attached the proposed IAU budget forecast for the next
triennium (2016-2018).
The folder contains the following files:
(a) Budget forecast overview
(b) Budget forecast details
(c) Pie-chart representation of Expenditures
(d) For reference: Budget apprived in Beijing (2012-2015)
We apologize for the delay in sending these documents to you and look
forward to your comments in the next few weeks.
May I draw your attention to our strategy to enhance our collaborative
Education and Public Outreach programs:
- Office for Astronomy Development (OAD) in Cape Town (negotiations
with the South African NRF will be conducted shortly to renew the
IAU-NRF Agreement about the Strategic Plan);
- Office of Astronomy Outreach (OAO) in Tokyo (agreement with the
National Astronomical Observatory of Japan);
- Office for Young Astronomers (OYA), just being created in Oslo
(extension of Agreement with the Norwegian Academy of Science and
Letters about the International School for Young Astronomers program).
To sustain these efforts, we ask you to approve an increase of dues of
2% per year. This number is in continuity with the budget forecast you
accepted in Beijing, which I attach also for your convenience in the
attached folder.
Please note also that we will accept at the next General Assembly over
1200 new Individual Members, which is an increase of more than a 10%
over the current IAU membership.
