IAU Commission 8: 2012-2015 newsletter #6
2014 November 09

==========================================

Dear members of IAU Commission 8, "Astrometry" !

1. IAU Commissions
I would like to draw your attention to a recent message by the
IAU General Secretary, Thierry Montmerle, regarding voting for
the new IAU Commission proposals. By now all IAU members
should have received an invitation to vote for up to 3
Commissions as an expression of interest. Please do so.
The future of our Commission depends on it. Voting closes on
Dec 31 this year. Early next year the interest shown by the
community through this vote will be used to finalize the set of
IAU Commissions which will move forward. No Commission proposal
will succeed without sufficient support by the community, as
expressed by this voting.

2. Gaia update
Please see the latest DPAC newsletter:
www.cosmos.esa.int/documents/29201/29541...cf-9b8d-02901b328a03

3. ADeLA 2014
We had a very successful dynamical astronomy and astrometry
centered meeting in Santiago, Chile past month. For more
details and on-line presentations please see:
adela2014.das.uchile.cl

4. SOFA
In April 2014 SOFA (Standards of Fundamental Astronomy) released
a new version of useful software products. For more details
please see: www.iausofa.org .

5. Scholarpedia
As editor of the Astrometry section of the Scholarpedia project
I am seeking contributions from the community. Please have a
look at: www.scholarpedia.org/article/astrometry . The main
difference to Wikipedia is that Scholarpedia is peer reviewed
and articles published there have the standing of publications
in peer reviewed journals. If you can think of a topic for a
new article or want to author something, please let me know.

Anthony Brown (VP Com.8)
