Historical information
Orlov conferences "The study of the Earth as a planet by methods of geophysics, geodesy and astronomy"
are well known international scientific meetings in the fields of geophysics, geodesy and astronomy.
These conferences are organized once per six years - with a period of variation of the polar motion.
A history of these meetings was started in 1980 - in year of 100th anniversary of birth
of well known scientist in the fields of geodesy and astronomy,
founder of the Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine
Aleksandr Orlov.
Five Orlov conferences took place since 1980:
- September 29 - October 3, 1980,
Main Astronomical Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine, Kiev, Ukraine.
- September 29 - October 3, 1986,
Poltava Gravimetrical Observatory of the S.I. Subbotin Institute of Geophysics, Poltava, Ukraine.
- September 7 - 12, 1992,
Astronomical Observatory of the I.I. Mechnikov University of Odessa, Odessa, Ukraine.
- September 21 - 23, 1998,
(as session of JOURNEES-98 Conference), Paris Observatory, Paris, France.
- September 22 - 25, 2003,
(as session of JOURNEES-2003 Conference), Institute of Applied Astronomy, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The 6th Orlov Conference will take place at the Main Astronomial Observatory of the NAS of Ukraine on June 22-24, 2009, Kiev, Ukraine.
This meeting is devoted to the 100th anniversary of well known scientist in the fields of geodesy and astronomy
Eugene Fedorov.
