LABORATORY FOR PHYSICS OF COMETS

The Laboratory for Physics of Comets (until 2005 - The Laboratory for Physics and Astronomy of Low-Temperature Astronomical Objects, FANAO) was created on the basis of Department for Experimental Physics in 1994. It was organized by Dr.Sci. L. M. Shulman. At present Ph.D. P. P. Korsun is the head of the Laboratory.

The Laboratory uses for observations the telescope AZT-2 in Kyiv, 60-cm telescope of the Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory, 2.6-m telescope of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, and 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The main topic of research is physics of comets.

Observational works in the cometary astronomy include photography and analyses of the images, spectroscopic investigation of the composition, dynamics, and specific features of cometary atmospheres, integral photometry and polarimetry.

Theoretical investigations deal with the statistics of comets, dynamics of cometary atmospheres, physical processes in the surface layers of cometary nuclei, etc.
