ASTRO / SPACE INFORMATION AND COMPUTING CENTRE (ASICC)
Astro/Space Information and Computing Centre (ASICC) was created in 1994.
Until 2004 the head of the ASICC was Ph.D. P. P. Berczik.
From 2004 Ph.D. A. A. Veles was the head of the ASICC.
Now the head is Dr.Sci. P. P. Berczik.
The concern of the centre is to provide the Observatory staff with all
kinds of information services, exchange of information between MAO and
the world, as well as the attendance of the computer facilities of the
Observatory. ASICC consists of divisions: computer centre
and centre of space operations.
The computer centre was created on the basis of the computational and
measuring centre which existed since 1965.
The first computer installed at the centre was "PROMIN" which was operated
with metallic punched cards. In due course the computing opportunities
of the centre increased: "RAZDAN-2", "MIR-2", ES-1022, ES-1061.
Now computing division works with a computer network consisting
of about 70 personal computers.
Centre of space operations is equipped with an automatic digital
two-coordinate microphotometer ACMF-XY which allows
photografic images of extended astronomical objects (field 6x9 cm)
to be reduced with large accuracy (4.17 mkm) and speed
(500 measurements per second).
The Department includes the Laboratory for Astro-Information
(the head is Ph.D. I. B. Vavilova).
