Location

The radio astronomy station Simeiz of the Laboratory of Radio Astronomy is a department of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory (CrAO), the Crimea, Ukraine. It is located at the foot of mountain Koshka on the shore of the Black Sea, 20 km west from Yalta. The radio astronomy station Simeiz was founded in 1965. The first single dish observation was made in 1966 and the first VLBI observation was performed in 1969. The radio astronomy station Simeiz was included to the International VLBI Service (IVS) in 1980.

The foundation pit of the telescope is 9 m deep and contain crushed stones (3 m) and concrete (6 m). The height of the elevation axis above the foundation is 14.998 m. The telescope is located 80 m from the edge of the Black Sea.
