Hardware

The SLR station Golosiiv-Kiev consists of the following basic technical systems:

  • laser,
  • transmitting-receiving system,
  • operation system of the telescope,
  • time and frequency service,
  • visual control system,
  • meteo service,
  • data collection and analysis system.
The Golosiiv-Kiev Satellite Laser Ranging System is presented in the general block-scheme.

The main technical characteristics of the SLR station Golosiiv-Kiev are the following:
expected overall accuracy of the system Δ 6 cm
operating staff 1 person
calibration pre, post, external
range of operation 400 - 5000 km
observed scale 20o - 90o
maximum angular rate in azimuth and zenith     3 deg/sec
accuracy of tracking 30 arcmin

The laser Nd: YAG, PULSAR-3 was installed at the Golosiiv-Kiev SLR station. The main characteristics of the laser are as follows:
wavelength 532 nm
repetition rate     10 Hz
pulse energy 3 - 15 mJ
mode TEMoo
pulse width 450 ps
divergence 0.4 mrad
controlled change of the laser beam divergence
on the telescope output

The transmitting-receiving system has start and stop channels.

Start channel consists of
start detector self-made (1 nsec rise time) avalanche phototransistor

Stop channel consists of
PMT FEU-79
spectral filter 8A, 70%, 532 nm
pulse amplifier

time interval counter SR620 (since 2000)

The operation system of the telescope involves three parts:

  • telescope,
  • step-motor drivers,
  • position sensors of the telescope (encoders).

The telescope TPL-1M has the following characteristics:

The visual control system consists of the telescope guide and CCD camera.

The main characteristics of the telescope guide are:
galilean  
diameter 12 cm

equipped with CCD CCTV Corp., 3*10-5 Lux GBC CCD.

The meteo service has the following characteristics:

temperature 0.5oC
pressure 1 mBar
humidity 5 %

The data collection and analysis system is equipped by
IBM-PC486, 24Mb, 500Mb, 133MHz for mount tracking
IBM-PC486, 24Mb, 10Gb, 100MHz for the main procedures
